چکیده

Whilst current policies recognize the impacts that changes in climates and markets have imposed on Italian food system, less attention is given to development of systematic approaches identify alternative cropping systems across Italy European continent. In this article, a novel evidence-based crop shortlisting method was developed address diversification needs for as an example whole Europe. order shortlist possible options from pool 2700 crops, crop–climate–soil matching exercise performed territory, crops with more than 70% suitability were chosen further analysis. second phase, multi-criteria ranking index employed assign ranks four main types: (i) cereals pseudocereals, (ii) legumes, (iii) starchy roots/tubers, (iv) vegetables. To provide comprehensive analysis, all abovementioned criteria compared both major are grown region potential underutilised (UCs). The results evaluation (namely (a) calorie nutrition demand, (b) functions uses, (c) availability accessibility their genomic material, (d) possession adaptive traits, (e) physiological traits) revealed teff, faba bean, cowpea, green arrow arum, Jerusalem artichoke, Fig-leaved Gourd, Watercress. We discuss implication utilising such selection developing transformative solutions security aim providing primer mainstreaming UCs policy investment plans.

Whether crop diversification is a desired strategy for agricultural growth in Bangladesh

This study aimed at examining the merit of crop diversification as a strategy for agricultural growth in Bangladesh. Specifically, the existence of economies of diversification, scale economies and diversification efficiencies at the farm level were examined using a stochastic input-distance function approach. Results reveal strong evidence of diversification economies amongst most crop enterpr...

Land surface modification and crop diversification for enhancing productivity of a Vertisol

Vertisols occur extensively in centralIndiaand have high production potentials. Because of the high clay content (40-60% or more), high bulk density (1.5-1.8 Mg m-3) and related properties, these soils have high moisture storage capacity. Conversely, these soils become very hard when dry and very sticky when wet. Since last two decades, scientists, farmers and also the policy makers have be...

Cisgenics - A Sustainable Approach for Crop Improvement

The implication of molecular biology in crop improvement is now more than three decades old. Not surprisingly, technology has moved on, and there are a number of new techniques that may or may not come under the genetically modified (GM) banner and, therefore, GM regulations. In cisgenic technology, cisgenes from crossable plants are used and it is a single procedure of gene introduction whereb...
